2D animation - Pencil, Inkscape and Synfig

Hi Genete, thanks for the fast reply. Yes, for now, we only have this solution for synfig, the cut-out animation. Of course, we are using the vector deformation too, but always inside a cut out body part. I did not wrote anything new, I’ve just jointed all the knowledge from this forum and in the IRC channel. But this template has improve our production here.

Synfig is a great tool, and we are doing an effort to use it in our production. I am already writing all the features we should have for a better creation. We have meetings all Saturdays to discuss our project and our research about open source softwares.

I’ll do two things this weed: send you more information and files about the short movie, and all the things we are developing as animators and illustrators to improve Synfig.

About a bone, I am writing a suggestion to use it. And about java and Synfig, Henrique ( he is a java programmer too! ), discover that the sifz file is a kind of xml file, as the svg one; so he wrote some codes in java, with a front end framework to write parameters in the sifz file; and we all asked together…isn’t it a way to create some add ons, and plugins to synfig? the first file was about the particles. This template is ready on, and I’ll write a tutorial to use it. The java integration is a verstion 2.0 of the template. It’s cool because we will create the particle effect in java, using the synfig engine for a preview and then at the end, a sifz file will be created to use in a synfig scene.

The particles effects are very cool, You’ll see it. But with this java integration, another question explode our minds…isn’t this a way to create bones for the synfig? Well, a lot of possibilities are coming up. I’ll write everything and send it.

We are trying to use the short movie to discover and study synfig. Yesterday, for exemple, Leandro was tracing our drawing inside synfig and writting the new “needs”; Henrique was programing in java to improve the integration between java and synfig; and me…I was trying to find a solution to use synfig as a frame-by-frame animator with the tools that we already have inside of it.

That’s it! I’ll send you the files…but, please, send me an e-mail that I can send you these.

Note: My synfig is showing the icons, but when I recorded it with “recordmyDesktop”, they sometimes vanish.

Some previews:
01- A second “bone” test. In this test, I linked some vector points to the rotation control, so, the hand control, affects the forearm; a king of IK: http://vimeo.com/10335186

02- Some Particles previews in Synfig:

That’s it.

Yeah! it is extremely cool!
