I would like to get some information too. I see rodolforg is pretty busy but barely anything gets merged, my own PR is lost to time without any clear reasoning why: feat: add transformation type to Shade layer by Svarov-RZM · Pull Request #2892 · synfig/synfig · GitHub
There’s no more Weekly Reports and it feels like the development is basically stopped. If people aren’t interested in Synfig, I am afraid I have to step in as a manager but I never did anything like this, I barely know anything about git and how to collaborate on an open source project, but I am not letting Synfig rot either.
I read old c++ code needed to be updated somewhere I believe. Finding dedicated opensource c++ gurus takes time as well as doing major updates if the software runs on an older backend. Im using Synfig more then ever anyway. The difference from 1.4.5 to 1.5.3 is huge and I hope Synfig keeps improving.
1.5.3 has all the necessary features I need just some bugs needs to be fixed then its two thumbs up from me. Also freehand vector drawing experience could still be improved with inkscape like accuracy but thats probably future features far away in the horizon.
Hi, guys!
I am very sorry for my long absence. We have all been very busy here.
Another issue is related to significant changes in the rendering of some layers.
Usually, we improve the Synfig codebase step by step, avoiding merging breaking changes. However, this time is different. Rodolfo did a great job of migrating old layers to the Cobra renderer, but he noticed some pixel shifts in the final result. This required additional effort to identify and fix the issue, so it is taking longer than usual.
As for me, I have been busy with my primary job and planned to return to Synfig since January 6th. However, to my regret, I am still dealing with some technical debt.
Anyway, I hope to be back to community soon!
Thank you all for your love and support - it really means a lot and motivates us!
