NEW USERS MUST READ THIS FIRST - Forums general rules

Hi new user! A long but necessary speech.

Forums generals rules.

Synfig has a big learning curve!
If you are new to synfig, please, firstly give a look to do the synfig step by step tutorial to be a bit more in Synfig way of thinking.

Search before post!
The Synfig forum have a great search function, it’s necessary to use it (or manualy dig !) before asking a question ! Be patient, take your time to search (trying various synonymes keywords) and you will not consume the time of others people.

Double posting
One common faux pas on Internet forums is to post the same message twice. Multiple posting can also be seen as a method of trolling or spreading forum spam. Don’t use it … be patient … if after a few days you don’t have any aswers, try again your chance by responding to your initial post with something like : “Hey great people of here, do you really don’t know how to help me ?”

Necroposting
A necropost is a message that revives (as in necromancy) an arbitrarily old thread, causing it to appear above newer and more active threads. Generally, this is not a good idea to anwser (re-open) such old stuff. But, it’s a good idea to read at them, they must have good informations for you.

Respect and kindness
Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users. Flaming or abusing users in any way will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning.

Normal writing
Members should post in a way which is consistent with “normal writing”. That is users should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or coloured text, etc. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts. Users consistently abusing this will be warned.

Use a descriptive subject!
When you ask for something, you should use an appropriate, descriptive subject when posting a new topic. Examples of bad subjects include; “Help me!”, “I’m stuck!”, “I’ve got an error!”, etc. Examples of good subjects include; “How to repeat a part of an animation”, “Error saving a project with images on an external hard drive”, etc.

Spamming
As you already know, forums are always suffering spam. One of the latest technique the spammers are using is to post some “legitimate” post on a old or new thread with some content extracted from this or from other forum board. Usually they pass unadvertised by the moderators because the content of the post is not fully related to the thread but the post itself is meaningful.

Later once they has passed that first “filter” (moderators has not noticed the new post) they modify the signature or simply edit the post and add links to forbidden sites.

Finally & Post moderator for new users
The moderating, support and other teams reserve the right to edit, remove or put on moderation queue any post at any time. Please note that currently any very first post is automatically placed in the moderation queue and will be approved/disapproved according to the present Rules. This mean that you’ll not see your first post after a moderator has approved it. Also you cannot post more topics until it is approved. The determination of what is construed as indecent, vulgar, spam, etc. as noted in these points is up to Team Members and not users.
If you’re spammer then neither your first post would be visible to the rest. If you’re a legal user, the first post usually is a presentation or at last a presentation and a question. Then it will be quickly approved (in hours / sometime days).

So this information is for you, the legal forum member:

  1. Any unrelated post will deliver to user removal and posts deletion. If you want to say something different to what the thread is about, just open a new thread for you. This rule doesn’t apply to threads that diverge to other theme in a normal post by post discussion but we encourage to the users to keep the thread on its own theme and do not steal one popular thread for other purposes.

  2. If you want to put your website link, artwork or whatever you want on the signature, it must be related to animation, artwork, Free Open Source Software or Free Culture. If you have doubts please ask here or in your own thread about that.

I’m sure that you wouldn’t have troubles with those rules but they will allow keep the forum cleaner and useful.

Last but not less important. If reading the forums you find any post that clearly violates the two rules above, please post it here with a link to the post. We would do the rest

Cheers!
