I am Luc, teacher at ENAC in Toulouse (France). I used Synfig studio to produce animations in personal videos. It’s easy to use, flexible and I it should be a very good tool for professional use if it should export in SVG/HTML5 format.

I think many people are cheering for svg/html5 export but it is a fact that many advanced features in Synfig are not supported in the svg format or are very difficult to translate into another format. Animated Advanced Outlines to name just one, but feel free to make a founded feature request here :
