Looking for a replacement for AfterEffects, I found Synfig. I like the program very much, it works under Linux and not with effect nodes (-;
I created this image completely in Synfig, except for the text on the path (circle).
When I’m done with the animation (rotate, zoom and light) I will show it here…
Hi and welcome the community. That’s an awesome looking image. Good work! You mentioned that you are looking for a replacement for After Effects, well while I love Synfig, it’s no After Effects replacement. I recommend Davinci Resolve, since that’s as close as any other software is currently to After Effects. I’m happy you are trying Synfig though, hope to see more of your Synfig creations in the future.
Hello Khemardi.
Thank you very much for the compliment.
I know Davinci a little. Maybe I’ll buy the program (for Linux) if I have a video project to edit. So far I have worked with Edius and Vegas Pro (Windows 10).
Creating animated graphics is more of a hobby of mine … and when I have created a result in Synfig that suits my taste … then I have always learned something with masks, layers, channels, etc. ((-;
Well that’s a good hobby. Also, there’s a free version to Davinci Resolve. The free version is called ‘Davinci Resolve’ and the paid version is called ‘Davinci Resolve Studio’. I’ve only ever used the free version.
In open source, i would prefer natron, but I guess paying one time fee for davinci is worth it if you need it, even free davinci is enough most of the times.
I suggested Davinci Resolve for editing. So animate in Synfig, then edit in Davinci. So i’m not recommending Davinci over Synfig. In the animation industry, they use multiple tools, example Toonboom, for animation, and then edit the final animation in Adobe Premiere. Each tool has it’s purpose
After my first project, I am very happy with Synfig.
A good compromise between manageable and “can do everything”.
I had lots of layers, groups and waypoints… and no program crashes.
The only thing: I prefer a dark design. But with this one, individual buttons and individual waypoint curves are difficult to see.
Due to him asking for alternatives of after effects… I and personally no one would ever prefer a 2d animation software (even professional high grade 2d animation software) over a industry grade vfx editing software.
However I would easily choose synfig between adobe animate and synfig…
