Is there a distant chat channel like discord or something like this:chat.inkscape.org

No, there isn’t a IRC channel for Synfig.
AFAIK, official ā€˜places’ for discussions and reports are this forum and Github repository.

Ok thanks for the info.

Should we create a Discord server for Synfig ?
Officially or unofficially ?

It’s just a good place to interact with community members, fast and quickly.

Lately, Discourse has a built-in Chat plugin, not activated here.

I’m not sure this would be so much great to activate it for several reasons:

  • Forums/IRC/Github are public and the communications benefit everyone
  • Our users are spread on different time zones and the interaction could be ā€œlimitedā€
  • We may not be able to filter the users having access to the chat, I don’t want the youngest of our users to be contacted by ā€œThe best escorts in Mumbaiā€ā€¦
  • As a possibility, our users can still use PM to exchange their email or chat/voice chat contact information

This is only my personal opinion (yeah, I know I’m a bit boring sometimes ^_^), the decision would be up to @KonstantinDmitriev

How about Telegram channel?

Did you mean Telegram Group ?
Telegram channels are just one way broadcast messages. Usually used for sending updates and notifications to user.

Telegram groups on other hand are Group Chats where everyone can send and receive messages.
Telegrams groups are ideal for small groups.

I really don’t care about what platform is being used, just anyway for quick communication is good.

You could start from here Telegram: Contact @morevnaproject_en

Yes, I meant Telegram Group, sorry.

I suggest to make a dedicated Telegram Group for Synfig, where users can communicate and help to each other.

But personally I think the problem with telegram groups is that it would be difficult to split them up according to topics, unless telegram allows it ?

I have seen other orgs using slack/matrix/similar stuff I remember gnome was using one of them and they had all sorts of different channels/groups for different topics and it was really good and organised.

However, maybe if it’s going to serve a single small purpose it could be an easy way of getting something set up quick…

I am starting a Discord Server.

I am also a noob at setting these things up, will learn along the way, about being a moderator on the Discord server. Hope we will not be flooded by Spam in the mean time. Requesting everyone to join.

I am also starting a Telegram group. So that we have a many different ways mediums for communication.

Telegram allows us to create ā€œTopicā€ which are similar to channels on Discord. I have created a few Topics on Telegram.

Motive behind these quick communication mediums is to facilitate faster communication and also provide more opportunity for communication by reducing complexity, and simplifing ways to get help as well as provide help to others.

It feels unsure to create a new topic here on Discourse, users are filled with doubts
ā€œShould I create a new topicā€
ā€œIs the solution already availableā€
ā€œAm I creating too much topicsā€
ā€œWill this annoy the moderatorsā€
ā€œThat topic is related to this, should I continue that topic?ā€
ā€œThat topic is too old, not sure if I revive it nowā€
… and so much

While on TG or Discord, asking tiny simple doubts are acceptable, and many times user are already familiar with environment of Telegram and Discord, they start communicating easily, rather than setting up a acocunt here, and coming back to check if anyone has responded, etc.

I request everyone to join whichever platform that suits well.

@BobSynfig , if possible pin this message.

Don’t forget to do some reporting about topics talked about on these channels.
The goal of the forums is to build a kind of knowledge base that will be used as a reference for users that will encounter the same issues later and use (let’s dream about it) the search function before to post.

In my opinion, (any type of) forum should be used as a base of feedback to build a wiki and to archive the topics afterwards.

But it is rarely the case :stuck_out_tongue:

I just joined,I think discord is best for this. Y’all should join too.

Also, I want to contribute this hover increment feature to the parameters edit side, similar to a design to I use, it’s better than manually tapping + or -,

You basically hover on the numeric parameters and the icon switches to scroll, and on tap and drag up increases the value, the reverse decreases it
