Is cutout animation too stiff?

I was looking at some cutout animation and though I like this method it looks a bit stiff, I would like something more expressive but I’m not looking to draw frame by frame as I’m not confident enough.

Is there anyway to make cutout animation more strecher I suppose give it more life?

Basically cut-out animation follows the same basic principles of all animation: to name a few, squash and stretch, anticipation, follow through and overlapping movement etc. If you apply these correctly then you will get a long with with cut-out. You can also combine cut-out with limited frame by frame animation. All possible in Synfig.

You’re right that cut-out animation can look a little stiff, but as long as your story holds, it is no problem.
Remember that it’s all about moving the audience - not the characters…
