And there’s an icon for bone_object and bone_valuenode. I cheated a bit with this one, just took one of the bones from the pair and rotated it 45 like so:
I made the shape of the bone a bit imperfect to make it feel “less bland” and I’d say it looks okay. So what do you guys think? Is the design alright? Maybe alternative color scheme? If I don’t get any negative feedback, I will make a PR after a week or so.
Well, Synfig doesn’t have a separate icon (no specific type in the code) for a parent bone. I can make a different icon for upper bone though (the one for “First” and “Second” on the screenshot).
To make it match better with the rest of the icons? I am not gonna lie, I like how it stands out now but I will experiment with the silhouette since it’s not a lot of work.
Alright, thank you for feedback, I will try to make an additional icon as Majkel suggested and see if silhouette works better and then get back to you.
Okay, so it is possible to make icon for a parent bone, since bone_valuenode type is only used for a parent bone and nothing else.
I initially tried to design an actual joint for this type, like an elbow and two bones connected to it, but it does not look good in GUI when scaled down. Looks like a line with a blob in the middle, so I ditched that idea. I ended up with a very simple one:
It’s a joint and a bone meaning a bone at previous joint, you know, a parent bone. I am not super satisfied with it (wanted to do something more original), but at least it makes sense and look consistently in GUI. Crossed bones would be cooler, sure, but it would make little sense for a parent bone icon.
Here’s updated GUI look (first row is original color scheme, second row dark silhouette):
I do not like the silhouette icons… I can make it darker, but then visibility in Dark mode sufferers. If I make it brighter it’s barely any different from initial design.
So it seems we have to vote again… @Majkel@rodolforg@BobSynfig
Guys, which set of icons do you want to see in Synfig:
Original design (bright with outline and a shadow)
Silhouette (dark grey)
None but I have a suggestion about what can be improved
