fill tool has no options - empty to canvas

I have created a circle shape, with a region, outline, etc. but the shape shows up as a hollow doughnut rather than as a full circle with an outline, this is despite;

  • recreating the shape with other layer options
  • setting all settings back to default
  • singling out single layers and choosing multiple layers

when ever I choose the fill bucket tool the tool options panel displays ‘Tool has no options’. What’s going on here?

AHA! I have found the culprit!

I had set the little slide out bar menu thingy on the toolbox to something odd for some reason. I know not why.
Setting it back to ‘composite’ put everything back in order.
