SynfigStudio cannot be opened because of a problem [mac OS]

Hi everybody,

I have a project that needs a video, and I was thinking of getting Adobe Flash, which I used years ago, when it was still Macromedia.
I was thrilled to discover that SynfigStudio provides an apparently very nice open source alternative to Flash.

However, I seem to be unable to install it on my macbook pro, running a mac OS X 10.6.8.
I have downloaded synfigstudio-0.64.2-x86_64.dmg, which contains SynfigStudio.app. When I try to open the latter, I get a window saying
“SynfigStudio cannot be opened because of a problem”. Problem details and system configurations follow, which I can paste here, should they be helpful.
I tried the same with synfigstudio-0.64.1-x86_64.dmg, with the same unfortunate outcome.

I browsed the forum but was unable to find a solution. I read that it might be a problem of X11. However, I have X11.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Probably I’m doing something stupid, so bear with me.

Debugging a problem with 10.6.8 is difficult by itself, because there are so few users with such configuration.

Please paste them here or if they are so big, use a pastebin service to do that.

Hi Genete,

thanks for the pointers. I followed the threads you pointed me at, and created the symbolic link to the library /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreText.framework/Versions/A/CoreText. By the way, mine was in the same place as described in these instructions you referred to in one of your earlier replies to similar problems.

I think that the CoreText issue is solved, but unfortunately this appears to have increased the problems. I’m pasting the new error message below (by the way, is this considered too long? Should I use the pastebin service you mentioned earlier?).
Anyway, the problem seems to be in synfig, but I’m not sure.

pixman is the render library from Cairo rendering system. Seems to be a missing symbol under installation (building of the package) or a corrupted package.

I have no more ideas here.

thanks a lot for all your help… I tried and downloaded the dmg all over again, from different mirrors. Unfortunately, the result is the same.
It seems that my macbook is unable to run SynfigStudio.
I hope that someone can help with this.
Is there anyone running SynfigStudio under mac OS X 10.6.8? If this is the case, what version are you currently using?
