# Modern iconset (light and dark)

Not necessarily a bug.
If user is using lipsync file, it can happen too, until user set all mouth shapes.
It works as a reminder or warning that such named layer should exist.

- option 1: a normal layer group partially transparent
- option 2: a “warning group layer”

Why not to add a little Ghost on the folder?

I can also design a ghost, but I think it’s too literal and does not represent what the “functionality” really does. 🫣

@rodolforg I like Ghost Layer (option 1) but I think if it was a light grey in the same lowered opacity it would work better. Something like below:

I’m happy to say the theme is nearly finished, IMHO it’s 99% done just waiting for you to test it and get feedback.
Summing it up:
- 215 icons redesigned
- all icons have been themed (if you find any missing, please, let me know)
- future plans are to add icons to commands that now have no icons (for instance “Canvas/Options…”). BTW, I have listed them in the following image)

As commented in my first post, although under Synfig v1.5.1 Preferences there is an option to change “icon theme”, it only changes some of them, not the whole set so I suggest to test the modern icons as follows:
1. browse the following path in your computer **[path\_to\_synfig]/share/synfig/icons/**
2. rename **/classic/** folder as **/classic\_original/**
3. uncompress the zip and place it in **/icons/** folder
4. you will find /modern\_light/ and /modern\_dark/ folder. Rename the one you want to use as /classic/
5. Launch Synfig and enjoy
As a last thought, now is the moment to test how the “Icon theme” option under Preferences work as it looks like it doesn’t work properly (tested under macOS and Synfig 1.5.1)

I took a screenshot, in red the ones that even restarting Synfig doesn’t change:
The curious thing is that if I rename the folder `/classic/` to `/classic_bak/` and `/modern/` to `/classic/` then the icon theme works perfectly…

Absolutely love the modern icon set.. did have a little trouble getting it to work with the current DEV build, but got round that by making sure none were missing from theme so it matches the classic theme for 1.5.3.
I’ve also gone and done a few changes of my own, only for the Dark though.

I’m doing tests to integrate mdark theme (even the 2 v0.9 iconsets) in _Unofficial AppImage builds_.
No problem to switch to these themes once in the app (starting with classic theme), it works fine.
But if we leave Synfig and restart it (with mdark icons theme at startup), it will crash.
There are missing icons in the theme (and in the others also).
@pablogil could you please check the missing icons?

Wondering what other icon themes are out there? I did find another called ‘minimal’ which looked pretty nice, but I had to write a script to help quickly batch scale and convert each icon correctly from SVG to PNG.. Odd thing was the icons extensions were .png, even though they were scalable vectors, as if they were renamed, rather than exported correctly.

Hi!
The newest build I’m using is `3b7c539` with date around 23rd August 2024 and it works fine for me with the following “kit” of icons:
But `lower_bound_handle_icon` is not included nor designed… I would like to finish the theme with all icons but as the classic one has also some missing this got stick in nobody’s land…
How about trying to gather in one place the missing ones in the last builds, list them so that I can design them as `sif` and then I move to design the missing ones for my `modern theme`?
My original plan (and still actual) was to upload all my theme with SVG icons as a project at GitHub or if you are interested push them into the `main` or `dev` branches…
