Keyframes don't remember object position--can't animate

I’m just practicing animating, however, when I add a keyframe and change something,it does nothing but hold that position across frames–even ones I thought I edited before. I keep following the tutorial, got it to work once and that was only by accident. Any tips? Thanks!

Check that you are in animation mode and that the lock keyframe status is “all keys locked”.
