I was experimenting with importing sifz files to synfig and then exporting to project library.the method i used is this.
1 Import sifz file. imported file will have path to imported file as its name.
2 In layer browser change groups name.
3 Select group then in properties panel select canvas click on import to project library.

What I found is that the group was no longer linked to the imported file.
Booth files could be manipulated separately without one affecting the other.
Is this how Synfig should be working?
Could find no documentation on this.

Yes, it is the expected behaviour. When you export a value or a canvas to project’s library it’s **copied** to a specific section of current sif file.

Thank you for your reply. Is it also expected behavior that when you Import a sifz file in this manner that it will no longer be linked to the original imported sifz file

Yes, it’s basically the same as right-clicking on imported layer and hitting ‘Embed layer’.
