I am running Synfig 61.9 ok on my asus s90 Ubuntu Karmic kola 9.10 ( 64 bit) o/s
when I loaded the Ubuntu (debian) 64 bit version from your web site it loaded ok and seemed to work except for actually drawing.
Neither the mouse pad or draw tablet work. They both worked on the previous version without modification.
Any help would be appreciated.

It is a known issue that will be fixed in the next release. Meanwhile you just have to so the following:
Go to ToolBox->Input Devices and disable all the devices you can find there. If you have a extended input device that you’ll use its pen pressure then enable it to screen. All the other devices (Macintosh mouse button emulation and USB Optical mouse) must be disabled.
Sorry for the inconvenience but it is a bug that we didn’t catch in the previous release because it happens in some recent linux distributions only.

I changed the Note in Wiki Docs->Manual->Getting Started->First Steps accordingly.
